The Department of Fundamentals of Nursing organized a debate for First Semester BSc Nursing students to ignite thinking among the students, a teaching-learning method. The debate was conducted on September 25, 2023, at 9:00 AM on the topic “Is professional conduct vital for nursing students to provide patient care.” There were a total of five teams comprising three members in each. Three teams spoke for the topic, and the remaining two teams against the topic. They justified their viewpoints on professional conduct by giving clinical-oriented examples. The teams argued that the professional conduct among nursing students in clinical settings was as vital as the education and skills required by a student nurse. The students gave relevant examples and scenarios during which a student nurse must choose between the conduct and skills to be provided and the result of the same. In the end, the team, along with the audience, concluded that imbibing the skills and knowledge in hand with professional conduct can make a student nurse more efficient when providing clinical care to patients. The roots that germinate from the beginning as a student nurse can grow into a strong tree when they become a fully pledged nurse with skills and appropriate conduct. The audience at the end provided good feedback. A total of 123 students were present during the debate, including 16 male students and 107 female students. This activity was in line with Sustainable Development Goal 4: Quality Education.
